An isolated example — just the sound, a few hits — is the most useful first recording. In-a-beat examples show what it can do.
Should I learn this now?
Easier after Tongue Click — the control you build there is what makes this one click.
Start here: the steps below. They are written for a complete beginner — no vocabulary needed.
Say "lah" and feel your tongue peel off the roof of your mouth.
Now do it with suction and no voice: the tongue POPS down — a hollow "clop".
Change the pitch by rounding your lips and opening your jaw — big space, deep clop.
With the throat open it turns watery ("hollow clop") — alternate high and low clops for a melody of pops.
Percussion made by tongue suction — no breath involved at all.
Seal your tongue against the roof of your mouth, build a little suction, and release — the pop IS the sound. Because clicks don't use your lungs, you can make them while breathing in, breathing out, or even while humming. That freedom is their superpower: percussion that never costs you air.
